Day 1: PAKISTAN REGISTER 8-WICKET WIN OVER AFGHANISTAN

Pakistan started the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup campaign on a high with an eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in their group A encounter at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium's main ground in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.

Electing to bat, Afghanistan suffered a horrible collapse and were eventually bundled out for just 138 runs in 42.2 overs before Pakistan reached the target losing two wickets, with 14.3 overs to spare.

Man of the Match: Muhammad Mohsin Khan (Pakistan)

Afghanistan kept losing wickets in clusters, with wicket-keeper batsman Munir Ahmed's 41 off 71 balls being the highest of the innings. None of the other batters could even reach 20s.

Pakistani bowlers displayed a great team effort, with Muhammad Mohsin Khan picking up four wickets for 30 while Amad Butt and Khushdil Shah bagged two wickets each.

Pakistan lost both their openers -- Haidar Ali giving a return catch to Abdul Wasi on 16 while his partner Omair Yousuf departing after scoring 38.

But wicket-keeper batsman Rohail Nazir and skipper Saud Shakeel put on an unbroken 70-run third wicket stand, helping Pakistan reach the target without any further damage.

Rohail was not out on 52 off 73 while Shakeel remained unbeaten on 30 off 58 deliveries.
