A superb all-round performance saw Bangladesh cruise to a comfortable six wicket win over United Arab Emirates in their Under-19 Asia Cup tournament match played at Free Trade Zone grounds at Katunayake on Friday.

Bangladesh v UAE
Winners - Bangladesh

Rain had reduced the game to 45 overs and chasing a target of 128, Bangladesh cruised to a comfortable win with 141 balls to spare.

Possessing in their ranks several players who had gone onto play First Class and List ‘A’ cricket, Bangladesh were too strong for the UAE side.

Tall left-arm quick Shoriful Islam, who has already played for Bangladesh ‘A’ did the early damage with the new ball claiming two wickets and he was well backed up by 16-year-old right-arm fast bowler Tanzim Sakib, who finished with three wickets.

The two seamers reduced UAE for 27 for five before Alishan Sharafu (34) and Osama Hassan (58) helped their team to stage a recovery with a 55 run stand for the sixth wicket.

Left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan then ran through the lower order claiming three wickets including that of top scorer Osama.

Osama faced 65 deliveries for his 58 and hit six fours and three sixes.

The run chase was a child’s play for Bangladesh, whose openers added 62 runs in double quick time as it came off just 46 deliveries. Tanzid Hasan, a hard hitting left-handed opener  raced to 45 runs off just 27 deliveries with three boundaries and four sixes. He was dismissed when Sanchit Sharma took a return catch. He was named Man of the Match.

Mahmudul Joy joined Parvez Emon and the pair added 33 runs for the second wicket to take Bangladesh closer to victory. Joy finished unbeaten on 27.

The win gave Bangladesh two points and another win in one of their next two games will take them through to the semi-finals.

Bangladesh’s next game is on Sunday against Nepal.

The big game between arch-rivals India and Pakistan will take place on Saturday. De Zoysa Stadium at Moratuwa will host the game. Meanwhile at R. Premadasa Stadium Afghanistan will take on Kuwait on Sunday. The Afghans stunned Pakistan on the opening day of the eight nation tournament and a win on Sunday will give them a semi-final berth.
