DAY 2: SAJJAD SINKS SINGAPORE

Man of the Match Tamoor Sajjad of Qatar

Report by Richard Lockwood, CAT

Qatar make it two wins out of two

Qatar captain Tamoor Sajjad hit 93 on the opening day of the tournament as Qatar defeated Malaysia at Gymkhana Club, and has shown what a good player he is by following up with an unbeaten 69 against Singapore at Prem Centre.

Tamoor faced 89 balls and hit 10 fours and his innings was the main difference between the two sides as Singapore wasted a chance to push for victory in their first match of the tournament. Rezza Gaznavi played just as well for 51 from 59 balls with six fours and two sixes before being run out by the length of the pitch.

Two more disastrous run outs followed as well as a pair of stumpings, as Singapore were bowled out for 185 and a hatful of chances in the field were also squandered as Abhiraj Singh bowled particularly well to build up pressure on Qatar’s batsmen.

Wicket-keeper Taha Mohammad made a solid 43 to go with three catches, two stumpings and a hand in two of the run outs, but it was Tamoor Sajjad who saw his side through to win by five wickets with 4.1 overs to spare.
