ACC U-19 Challenge Cup 2009 - Brunei v Myanmar

Report courtesy of Cricket Association of Thailand

Myanmar have been regular visitors to Chiang Mai in recent years playing in ACC tournaments at all levels and have endured many difficult days, so it is wonderful to report that they have had a day to remember at Prem Centre in scoring 302 for 6 against Brunei and beating them by 188 runs.

Saw Phone Thet Paing became the first batsman to score a fifty for Myanmar and he was soon followed by Zarni Thein who was the second. The pair added a partnership of 139 for the third wicket as Myanmar made the highest total in their history as well as the best of the tournament.

Saw Phone Thet Paing hit 13 fours in his 77, while Zarni Thein played the supporting role with 55 including four boundaries. Aung Aung and Min Wai both hit well to take Myanmar to an imposing total but at least Aqib Mustafa Mian finished with 4 for 54 for Brunei.

Aung Aung then took two wickets at the start of Brunei’s innings before Sukhmindar Singh tried to prevent the match from being totally one-sided by also reaching his fifty. But only two batsmen reached double figures as the last eight wickets fell for 17 and Brunei were bowled out for 114.

Aung Aung had the excellent figures of five for 20 and Khin Aye took three for 19 to complete a happy day for everyone involved in bringing cricket to Myanmar.
