IRAN JUST TOO STRONG FOR MYANMAR

Iran took the honours in the play-off to decide fifth and six places as they just managed to beat Myanmar by two wickets in what was probably the most exciting match of the competition.

As with the two semi-finals the team winning the toss chose to field and once again there wasn’t much sign of any batting prowess from the side batting first as Iran's opening bowlers proved too much for Myanmar at the start of their innings, and the spinners cleaned up the tail. Only two batsmen reached double figures and a total of 73 shouldn't have given Myanmar much chance of success.

But it was much closer match than either of the semi-finals as Iran and Maldives who were clearly well matched. Myanmar made a good effort in the field as they tried to defend a low total as captain Htet Lin Aung took six wickets to reduce Iran to 68 for 7. The eighth wicket then fell with scores level, and Myanmar's opening bowler had one more over to bowl. The last ball of an outstanding spell was hit for four by Ahmad Shadzehisarjou and Iran had won a close contest by 2 wickets.
