NEPAL WIN THE ACC U-16 PREMIER

Going into the last day needing a win over Malaysia to finish at the top of the 2014 ACC U-16 Premier table, Nepal added the one age-group trophy missing from their extensive collection of ACC events with victory by 32 runs over Malaysia. The team were indebted to a 26-ball 44 by No. 8 Pawan Sarraf which took them to what proved to be a match-winning 162 in their allotted 40 overs. In reply, though Malaysia threatened, they were always likely to fall short once captain and Batsman of the Tournament Virandeep Singh was run out in the fourth over of the run-chase.

Nepal effected four run outs in all, and were close to immaculate in the field. Malaysia's Fadli Haris took three excellent catches and struck a valiant 34 off 32 balls to give his team hope. Perhaps ultimately fielding was the difference between the sides, a dropped catch of Pawan Sarraf at long on when he was 21, being a significant factor. At the 30-over stage, Malaysia at 109 for 6 were ahead of Nepal at the same point, but only 20 more runs were possible. "We played like a professional team. This is a great win for our team, they have worked hard in testing circumstances to prepare for this tournament and a lot of the players already have good futures in the game,"said Nepal's Assistant Coach Raju Basnyat.

In the day's other two matches, Bahrain won by two wickets chasing Oman's 106 and Singapore beat Thailand by nine wickets chasing 62.
