DAY 5: HONG KONG HAMMER IRAN, KUWAIT CLATTER QATAR

Hong Kong's Raag Kapur hit the tournament's first century as his team set themselves up for what will be an ACC U-16 Elite League title decider against Afghanistan on the final day of the tournament tomorrow. Kapur's 112 against Iran took just 104 deliveries with five 4s and six 6s and his partnership of 162 off 127 deliveries with his captain Jhatavedh Subramanyan (74) was full of sparkling strokes in the V. Both boys were playing in front of their parents, who watched on from the West End Park stands in southern Doha.

Iran did as well as they could, chased hard and took three good catches and forced a run out off the last ball of Hong Kong's innings, but were outplayed by a combative Hong Kong unit who can eye T20I and ODI appearances if their seniors keep on pulling off inspiring performances in the years ahead. Hong Kong's 293 was the tournament's highest score and as if Iran hadn't suffered enough after 35 overs, Haroon Arshad plundered 30 off just 12 deliveries when he came in. Iran with the bat lost a wicket to the first ball of their innings, and struggled throughout against the pace of Karandeep Singh (4 for 6). Their innings ended with two good catches close in by Hamed Khan and Haroon Arshad.

Earlier in the day at Mesaieed, Kuwait's captain Nomaan Budroo himself pulled off two excellent takes against Qatar who withered away after winning the toss. Kuwait's spinners took the bulk of the wickets, Qatar all out for 46 inside 23 overs. Kuwait knocked off the runs in 5 overs.
