DAY 4: AFGHANISTAN AND KUWAIT POWER ON

Abdul Wasi and Islam Hakemzai walk off having secured Afghanistan's nine-wicket win over Qatar at West End Park

Afghanistan made short work of Qatar on Day 4 of the ACC U-16 Elite, winning by nine wickets at West End Park chasing 63. Had pace-bowler Aakash Manohar taken the return catch offered by Islam Hakeemzai the ball after he yorked Mohammad Hassan, Qatar would have had a chance to make some inroads into the powerful Afghanistan batting. It was not to be.

Earlier, Omar Sayeed's dismissal when on 25 opened the gates for Afghanistan and they cleaned up the next five wickets for no further addition, collapsing from 63 for 5. Afghanistan's spinners Qais Hassan and Sabir Mujahid taking three wickets each.

Kuwait's all-rounder Allen Thomas
Earlier in the day, Kuwait's spinners took charge against Iran at the Mesaieed ground after Kuwait had scored 178. The Kuwait top order all contributed, with Allen Thomas making a well-composed 66 off 97 deliveries, playing with good technique. Ball in his hand, Thomas also shone, taking 3 for 12 with his off-breaks as Iran were bundled out for 77.
