Message from the ACC Development Manager

That we should have one of our important tournaments in Penang is a good thing for the ACC. Penang has a century-old history of cricket and is a worthy venue for high-profile tournaments. Malaysia has a wide-spread cricket base and it is always refreshing to see an increasing number of venues being established.

Cricket has a lot to offer Malaysia, in turn Malaysia must manage its cricket properly in order to maximize its current opportunities.

I expect there will be some very close matches in this U-16 Challenge Cup, which is a new age-group for our member nations to compete in. The lessons learnt through this competition I trust will be carried through in practise and further local and international matches, until we see these cricketers again in our U-19 events.

Thanks to the Asian Cricket Council’s Development Program a number of countries in this U-16 Challenge competition are first-time visitors to Penang. I wish all competitors the very best and hope that they take from this tournament many worthwhile memories and new friendships.

We thank the Penang Cricket Association for undertaking to organise this tournament and the Malaysian Cricket Association for assisting them.
