2006 ACC U-15 Cup (Elite Division) - AFGHANISTAN v HONG KONG

Hong Kong were always going to have a problem with the Afghan bowling and this proved to be the case when Anesh Varma (2) fell to the sheer pace of Rahmani in the second over.

The scores of batsmen dwindled with the exception of Zuaid Khan (62 n.o.), who played a brilliant innings to take Hong Kong to what they thought would be a safe total of 126 in 49.4 overs. The Afghan bowling of spinning tyro Zard Ali Ali (4-44) and Ehsanullah Khatabi (4-25) was the reason for the collapse of the Hong Kong squad.

Afghanistan then smashed their way to a total of 275. Zard Ali Ali (120 off 149) and Ziaul Haq (47) put on a dazzling 100 run partnership. Vivek Manglani took 4-80.

With a deficit of 149, Hong Kong were forced to push for the runs. It never really looked like being their day when opener Anish Varma fell for a duck in the 3rd over. Zuaid Khan (60 n.o.), Ashish Gadhiya (42) and Manglani (30) were the only major contributors as the others all fell for single-digit scores. Scoring 167 being all out, the Afghans now only needed 19 runs to win.

Afghanistan went on to win by 9 wickets in the 3rd over. Zard Ali Ali was handed the Man-of-the-Match award for his stunning contribution in the first innings.
