DAY 2: SINGAPORE SQUEEZE PAST KUWAIT, SAUDIS HAMMER BHUTAN, MALDIVES SPIN PAST BAHRAIN

Man of the Match Abhiraj Singh being congratulated by his team-mates.

Singapore snatched a dramatic victory against Kuwait, winning by 20 runs in a thrilling game at Kallang. The game was a must-win for the home side, as defeat today would have made winning the event very unlikely. The game looked like it was heading Kuwait's way after they bowled out Singapore for 216 and were themselves 86 for 2 in the 12th over. Mohammed Irfan was on 72 off just 41 deliveries (four 4s, and six 6s). However a spell of concerted spin-bowling from Dharmichand Mulewa (3 for 28) who bowled Irfan, and Man of the Match teenager Abhiraj Singh (5 for 42) led to a steady fall of Kuwait wickets and though a last-wicket stand of 31 kept Kuwait in the game, Abhiraj and Dharmichand combined to take the final Kuwait wicket with the Gulf nation 20 runs short.

Hameed Saeed scoring a blistering 181 of 121 balls helped Saudi Arabia thrash Bhutan by 300 runs.

Saudi Arabia smashed a colossal 438 for 4 off 50 overs against Bhutan at the Singapore Sports Club ground. Hammad Saeed - dropped at long-off before he got off the mark went on to make 181 off 121 balls, (nineteen 4s and nine 6s) and Shahbaz Rasheed (108 off 115, nine 4s and three 6s) put on 230 for the third wicket before Saudi captain Afzal Saleem made 76 off 32 balls (six 4s, six 6s). Bhutan in reply struggled to 138, only the diminutive Sonam Tobgay (55 off 93 balls, six 4s) making a score of substance. The total was two runs short of the highest 50-over score ever made in an ACC tournament which was achieved by Singapore against Thailand.
