Group D: Hong Kong v Malaysia, BSAM

Hong Kong
Malaysia

With a recent history of triumph at Tuanku Ja’afar level against Hong Kong, Malaysia woud have entered this contest feeling very confident. And so it proved, as they won by 178 runs.

Solid performances from all of Malaysia’s batsmen meant that they were never under any pressure. They were given an excellent start by captain Suhan Kumar (51) who dominated an opening stand of 68 and though Hong Kong kept chipping away (Irfan Ahmed 3-33), Malaysia managed to post an imposing 242.

Malaysia’s bowlers were out of the blocks with a bang, the talented James Atkinson being dismissed in the first over and his partner Robert Bacon falling soon after. Throughout, Malaysia bowled straight and didn’t allow the batsmen any room to play their shots. Only Gary Brierly with 31 managed to stand fast but once he fell to left-arm paceman Mohammad Kasman, the match was over as a contest.
