Group A: Nepal v Bahrain at Tribhuvan University Ground

Amrit Bhattari of Nepal picking up the Man of the Match award from ACC Event Organiser K.K. Haridas

Nepal made surprisingly easy work of Bahrain in the tournament opener, winning by 8 wickets.

Their bowlers, ably backed up the fielders, ripped through Bahrain’s batsmen with Amrit Bhattarai in particular showing fiery pace. He sprays the bowl around a bit (he bowled 11 wides) but figures of 4-38 off his ten overs show his immense talent. Two of his victims bowled, the others leg before and if he can tighten up his leg-stump line, he will really make life difficult for any batsman.

Nepal’s Sarad Veswarkar and Gyanendra Malla knocking off the winning runs.

Nepal’s opening bowler Bantu Bataju conceded only 8 runs off his seven overs and Paras Khadka took 3 for 17. Bahrain were simply filleted with precision by Nepal’s attack and were all out for just 67 in the 29th over.

A crowd of close to 400 had gathered by the time Nepal completed the formalities in the 12th over, shortly after midday.
