Group D: Malaysia v Saudi Arabia, BSAM

Malaysia’s Eszrafiq Aziz
Malaysia stayed well on track as tournament contenders with a steamrollering 172 run victory over Saudi Arabia.

Put into bat, all of Malaysia’s frontline batsmen made solid contributions with those seasoned campaigners Eszrafiq Aziz and Araffin Ramly top-scoring with 85 and 43 respectively. Aziz was in good touch throughout and batted with considerable fluency as he found the gaps with some ease.

Saudi Arabia chasing 271 would have fancied their chances as they are possessed of a number of fine all-rounders and at 74 for 1 in the 17th over would have been confident of pressing on. But it was not to be. Once the Afridi-like Shoib Ali fell to Mohammed Shukri, the floodgates were opened and Malaysia’s bowlers stormed through. The last nine Saudi wickets fell for just 25 runs.

Eszrafiq Aziz with figures of 4-11 off his eight overs to go along with his earlier 85 was named Man of the Match.
