Afghanistan v Brunei at Penang Sports Club

As one-sided as contests can get, Afghanistan blitzkrieged Brunei by 344 runs.

And yet at one stage, Brunei having dismissed two of the top three Afghan batsmen for just two runs and then having them at 41 for 4, 62 for 5 and then 75 for 6 would have been quite pleased with how things were going.

But a stand of 173 in just 23 overs between Mohammad Shah and Mohammad Basir took the game away from Brunei, took it away and deposited in Laos. And then upon Basir’s dismissal, Izzatullah Khan smashed 63 off just 33 deliveries. Ironically his were the only two sixes of the innings. Afghanistan finished on 356 for 8.

In reply, Brunei were simply blown away by Afghanistan’s pacemen. Four batsmen made 1, the top score of their innings and one batsman had to retire hurt after being struck a painful blow on the body.
