Bahrain v UAE at Kinrara Oval

Bahrain confirmed their promise at this level by defeating the UAE in a close encounter.

Batting first the UAE were in trouble from the first ball when Bahrain’s captain had Aashish Dhingra caught in the slips. UAE recovered well through their captain Pranav Arora. Just when it looked like a really big score was in his grasp he mistimed a pull off Angad Singh and was caught and bowled for 37. At 81 for 5 with over half the overs remaining, Waseem Bari came to his side’s rescue with a well-composed 42 including six 4s.

UAE finished on 150 in 40.2 overs, but they would have felt that they could have and should have scored more.

Bahrain’s batting for all its potential, had yet to truly click in this tournament and even here it was a long while before they were able to wrest control of the game from the UAE bowlers. A fourth-wicket stand of 47 between David Mathias (56) and Danish Jasnaik set Bahrain up for victory. Jasnaik having reached a well-composed 51 off 62 deliveries to tie the scores fell straight after, leaving Salman Sattar to stroke the winning run.
