Uzbekistan a country proud of its chess grandmasters and twelve Olympic medallists since 1996 (three golds, three silvers and five bronzes in boxing, judo and wrestling, along with an Alpine skiing gold) is taking steps to form a cricket federation.
Rustam Kurbanov the Minister of Culture and Sport Affairs in a meeting with the Asian Cricket Council Chief Executive Syed Ashraful Huq, said “We are keen to reach up to cricket and see how well we can do. Many of us are aware of the game and would like to take part.”
A translation of the Laws of Cricket into Cyrillic Russian has been started.
