KUWAIT’S GIRLS RAISE A HUE AND CRICKET

Kuwait Cricket jump-started their season with a round-robin three-team girls tournament. “This tournament was a platform for women cricketers to exhibit their skills. The selection committee are all thrilled by the response of women cricketers and are planning to have similar tournaments in future,” say Kuwait Cricket.

The best cricketers from those on view will form the squad for the expected ACC U-19 Women’s Championship next year, an event which Kuwait themselves hosted in 2012. “The women cricketers of Kuwait demonstrate how cricket can take hold of people in way that you would not think possible,” says Kuwait Cricket Director General Asad Baig. “the girls who play really enjoy the team-spirit cricket creates and the skills it develops.”

In the event, Kuwait Red beat Kuwait Blue by nine wickets, chasing 74 in 10 overs to lift the trophy with Sabreen Zaki of the Reds awarded Player of the Tournament.
