UAE READY FOR BERMUDA

UAE have announced their squad to tour Bermuda in July 2010. They will play a four-day Intercontinental Shield match, two 50-over games and a T20.

Swapnil Patil, Saqib Shah and Tahir Butt make their international debuts. Mohamed Tauqir also makes a comeback to the team after being sidelined with a broken finger he sustained in UAE’s game against Uganda in January. Tauqir will be the vice-captain with Khurram Khan leading the side.

Khurram Khan says, “It’s great to have Tauqir back. He is an important part of this team and particularly in the long form of the game he’s done really well for us.” Tauqir took 5 for 40 against Namibia last December.

UAE won by four wickets against Namibia and drew their match against Uganda. Third in the table, UAE need to win against Bermuda if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the Final. UAE have proved their strength in batting with three of their batsmen being the highest run-getters so far in the tournament (Arshad Ali – 253 @ 63.25, Khurram Khan – 241 @ 60.25 and Naeemuddin Aslam – 161 @ 80.50).

“It is going to be a tough game but we’ve got a lot of talent. The new players have been performing very well in the domestic games and we have all the confidence in them. We need to win and we’re going to attack from the start,” added Khurram.

Bermuda are currently bottom of the table after losing both their games, at home, to Uganda by seven wickets and Namibia by an innings and 185 runs.

UAE squad: Khurram Khan (captain), Mohamed Tauqir (vice-captain), Abdul Rehman, Arshad Ali, Ahmed Raza, Saqib Ali, Shadeep Silva, Qassim Zubair, Amjad Javed, Saqib Shah, Swapnil Patil, Tahir Butt, Moiz Shahid, Naeemuddin Aslam
