Bhutan started their second U-19 Girls Tournament in capital Thimphu last month with defending champions Dechecholing Middle Secondary School taking on Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School. Dechecholing are the tournament favourites in the 30-overs a side competition, having eight of their players in the national U-19 side which took part in last year’s ACC U-19 Women’s Championship in Chiang Mai.
At the same time a 20-overs a side Class 5 and 6 Tournament for boys is also taking place in Thimphu. Three grounds are being used for the tournaments. “400 girls are now playing in Thimphu, compared to just 60 last year,” says National Coach Damber Singh Gurung.
