BHUTAN'S DRUGYEL: TOP OF THE CLASS

Paro’s inaugural School Tournament ended with Drugyel Lower Secondary School beating Khangkhu School by eight wickets in the final at the Rinpung Ground.  Cricket came to Paro three years ago, this school tournament was the first in what are planned to be many more in the region.

“It was tennis ball cricket on a matting surface, but it was very competitive and the skill-level was high,” says Bhutan’s national coach Damber Singh Gurung. Khangkhu were put in to bat after Drugyel won the toss. Drugyel captain Rinzin did most of the damage with the ball with two early wickets. Khangkhu never recovered from the blow and were bowled out for 64 in 12 overs as Rinzin finished with an impressive 5 for 15.
