SINGAPORE IN THE SWIM WITH NEW GYM

Singapore's cricketers received a major boost to their performance potential with a new gymnasium at the Kallang Cricket Ground. The 550 square foot facility built exclusively for the use of the Singapore national team was inaugurated by Singapore Cricket Association President Khwaja Imran and Mariner's Cricket Club President Subhir Ghatak who is also a member of the SCA Technical Committee. The gymnasium has been donated by the Mariner's. At the opening ceremony Mr. Ghatak said, "We at Mariner's are happy to support our national team in every way we can and look forward to further winning performances from them."

The inauguration took place during the lunch interval of the ACC Elite League game between Singapore and Kuwait, with members of both teams and local luminaries present. ACC Development Officer for Singapore Aminul Islam says, “To have a place to train is not unusual, to have a place to be motivated to train, as a group, as a team, that is something special.” “For a local club to show their support for the national team is something which is very encouraging and, I think, inspiring for our cricketers who I hope will make maximum use of this opportunity,” added the SCA President.

Nepal’s enjoyed a performance boost following their own installation of a gym for the national team. After winning the ACC Elite League, two weeks later Singapore went on to reach the Final of Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 4 from where they advance to Division 3 in Uganda at the end of October from where further elevation gets them ever closer to a berth in the 2019 World Cup. “Skill, form, desire, fitness, mental sharpness, all these things are critical to success on the field. This gym will add a lot if used properly,” says Aminul.
