Tehran’s Azadi Stadium was again the scene of an Iranian coaching program. Run by national coach Mahmood Rasheed along with Monir Habibi and assisted by Hadis Karimi, the three-day course took a group of Physical Education teachers, players and U-16 novices through coaching modules.

18 of the 26 seniors were either PE teachers or students, and all of them according to the Iran Cricket Association “have been player or get involved in cricket.” Theory and practical modules formed the basis of the coaching program with the assessment being “completely practical. Their score was out of 100 and divided to demonstration skills, communication, coaching, group work,” says Mrs. Habibi.

The participants have been instructed to form a men’s and women’s team and the Tehran Cricket Committee “will support them with equipment, coaching material, a ground and pay them as well. Tehran will conduct a non-stop cricket tournament in September for these teams,” say the Iran Cricket Association.

The U-16 boys were coached in batting over the course of a day. Earlier a coaching and umpiring course was held in Ghorve in Kurdistan, north west Iran, by Mozhdeh Bavandpour for 60 men and women.
