Unbeaten throughout, UAE clinched the inaugural Gulf Women's T20 Cricket Championship at the verdant Al Emarat ground in Muscat, Oman. UAE beat Kuwait by 49 runs in the Final, after scoring 122 for 6. The UAE's Subha Venkataraman and Samiya Saleem were Best Batter and Best Bowler of the Tournament, respectively while Kuwait's Maryam Omar was Player of the Tournament. "We are absolutely thrilled that the girls trained so hard these past two months and played so well," said ACC Development Officer Iqbal Sikander.

In the absence of any other ACC women’s events this year apart from the ACC Women’s Premier in which no teams from the Middle East featured, Oman decided to host an event for the girls, who are keen to play, keen to improve, keen to do their very best in spite of the many obstacles they face. “My players are of two kinds,” says Oman Cricket’s Women’s Coordinator Vaishali Jesrani, “they either have cricket in the genes or they are seriously, seriously motivated in playing cricket because of watching the IPL.” The managers of Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE echoed her views.

The stand-out match of the tournament was the one on the second day between Kuwait and Qatar when, defending 88, Kuwait won by 1 run, with Qatar needing five runs to win off the last two overs. Director of the Department of Women’s Sports with the Ministry of Sports Affairs Saada Salim Al Ismaili distributed the trophy and prizes on the final day.
Qatar has been slated to host the second Gulf Women’s T20 Cricket Championship in December 2015.
