KHON KAEN BOYS WIN WITH BANGKOK GIRLS

Cricket featured in the 27th National Youth Games of Thailand for the first time this year and they concluded last week with gold medals for Khon Kaen’s boys and Bangkok’s girls. The Uttaradit Games were run by the National Sports Authority. Cricket’s presence represents just the fifth instance of cricket being officially incorporated into a nation’s sporting set-up (the other countries where cricket is part of the national games are Afghanistan, Bhutan, China and Malaysia).

“As soon as you get the National Sports Authorities or the national Olympic bodies involved you’re going to get an advantage,” says ACC Development Manager Bandula Warnapura. “getting into the mainstream has to be the goal of all our cricket associations, once that happens so many opportunities open up and cricket’s future becomes more secure.”

Cricket returns to the National Youth Games next year when they will be held in Phuket.
